Wonderful Thanksgiving to Early December Events

After our Thanksgiving dinner we traditionally sing and share talents

Celebrating the 19th birthday of Aaron (with girlfriend Ivy) at Taylors
After the birthday party the boys helped put up my tree (too heavy!)
The BYU student organ recital in the Music Building
I got out a puzzle for Thanksgiving but guess who did most of it?

The BYU Baroque ensemble (strings and flutes)under the direction of Professor Alex Wood played Telemann and Bach in front of the Bloch painting of Jesus at the Pools of Bethesda in BYU Museum of Art.

Wonderful exhibit from the Museum of Art in Ponce, Puerto Rico, at the BYU Museum of Art until Jan 3. Below are a few examples....

The sense of beauty, the aesthetic quality, is innate in every person and has found expression in various forms throughout history.
Luis A. Ferré, Founder of the Museo de Arte de Ponce, 1964

Santa, By Oris Delgado (1958, among the first Puerto Ricans to study art in Europe and one of the first in PR to study art history. Following the Spanish tradition of clothed Saints who came to the new world to celebrate festivals).
Woman in a Garden (ca.1880) by Raimundo de Madazoy Gareta (Spain)
Bouguereau (French, 1868) Far from Home represents 2 young sisters who support themselves playing music on the streets of Rome, shows poverty represented in a way that is not too stark, in an era of greater social awareness.
Fernando Diaz Mackenna, Spanish, but actively painted in Puerto Rico, Landscape with Washerwomen (1918)

The BYU String orchestra and BYU Orchestra

Julie, Fernanda, and I enjoyed the crowded Christkindl Markt at "This is the Place" village in SLC., with lots of vendors and performers.
Hannah and her roommate Bella and I at the 64th annual "Christmas Around the World" in the BYU Marriott Center. We loved every dance with its fabulous choreography and costumes and music by the BYU Folk Ensemble. Here are a few photos:

There were also beautiful dances from India, China, Lithuania, Canada, Wales, Hungary.

I always love attending my grand kids' sports. Cordelia with Ben, parents Peter and Rebecca after she played a great basketball game!

The beautiful Wasatch range after the first big snowfall of the season

Today is the 84th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. It is still a day that lives in infamy for our nation.

There have been many stories told, books written and movies made about this day. As supporters of our service members, we recognize those who were killed, those who risked their lives to help, those who went off to war and the families affected by it all. Our nation owes them all a debt of gratitude.

May we all work for peace in our everyday, small ways by building better, kinder, more compassionate attitudes with everyone whose lives we touch.
